2020 Wehrs Machine Mod Nationals Moves From Ogilvie Raceway To Gondik Law Speedway
FYE Motorsports owner Chris Stepan is thrilled to announce that instead of being forced to cancel the 15th annual Wehrs Machine Minnesota Modified Nationals driven by Boston Trucking due to the state of Minnesota’s extended COVID-19 restrictions, which currently does not allow the event to be held at the Ogilvie Raceway in Ogilvie, MN, an agreement has been made and details have been worked out so that the event will not be cancelled, but instead relocated to the Gondik Law Speedway in Superior, Wisconsin with several modifications.
Event details are as follows:
WISSOTA Modifieds, WISSOTA Super Stocks, WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds, WISSOTA Street Stocks and WISSOTA Hornets will be in competition both nights.
Practice will be held from 6p-9p on Wednesday night, May 20th. Pit gates will be open at 4pm. Pit passes are $25.
Racing will take place on Thursday night and Friday night (May 21st and May 22nd) featuring 2 complete shows for each of the 5 classes in action.
The event will be fully WISSOTA-sanctioned and will award Wisconsin State Points in all divisions.
Modifieds will race for $1,500 to win each night.
Super Stocks will race for $1,000 to win each night.
Midwest Modifieds will race $750 to win each night.
Street Stocks will race for $500 to win each night.
Hornets will race for $150 to win each night.
Stepan said ‘the partnership that FYE has had with Joe, Crash and Gus at Gondik Law has been awesome for years and we are all extremely excited to bring this early season event to the Twin Ports. With the state of Minnesota still shut down, we are thrilled to be able to host this event in neighboring Wisconsin at such a great facility. A lot of work has gone in to moving this annual event in a really short amount of time, so fans should stay tuned for more details to be announced over the next several days.’
A safety plan will be put into place with more details to come in the following days as well. Facemasks will be recommended. Hand sanitizer stations will be placed around the facility. Extra staff will be on hand to clean and sanitize concessions, restroom and other facilities. A social distancing plan will be in place and anyone that is at risk or ill is asked to not attend the event.
Stepan went on to say ‘I am very appreciative of the partnership we have built with Nate and the Wagamon family at Ogilvie over the years and I couldn’t be happier that they gave their blessing to move the event to Superior this year. I respect Nate and the Wagamons very much and although we will have to wait until October to host our next FYE event at the Big O, I thank them for their support and look forward to seeing them in Superior next weekend.’
Ogilvie Raceway co-owner Tom Wagamon said, ‘we have a great relationship with FYE and are very happy for everyone that this event is able to take place during these unprecedented times. We wish it was at our place, but fans in our area deserve these kinds of events and racers deserve the chance to get out, race and make some money, so we are excited to support it at Superior.’
Ogilvie Raceway Promoter Nate Fischer said ‘I echo Tom’s statements. We are very proud of the events we host each year with Chris and FYE. We look forward to hosting the Fall Classic in October and to the 16th annual Mod Nationals returning to the Big O in May of 2021.’
