INMAN WINS FIRST CAREER FEATURE

     Andrew Inman of Hermantown, MN captured his first career WISSOTA feature
win during the first night of racing at Gongik Law Speedway at the Head of the
Lakes Fair in Superior. A very emotional Inman related that he’s waited a long
time for this win, in fact, thirteen years since he began his career. Driving the No.
11Jr WISSOTA Midwest Modified Inman started the 20 lap main event from the
pole and battled with Solon Spring’s Jimmy Latvala the entire distance to take that
long elusive first win. Brandon Copp, Mark Kangas and Craig Lofdahl finished in
the top five.
     A strong field of 18 WISSOTA Late Models took the green flag for their 20
Lap feature, and when all was said an done, a familiar face was in victory lane. No
stranger to Gondik Law Speedway, having raced here for several years, New
Richmond, WI’s Pat Doar chased leader Darrell Nelson until lap 14 when he was
able to take the lead with a strong move off turn four. Doar also won his heat for
the sweep. Mike Prochnow, a former winner of this race, was third behind Nelson
whilt last week’s winner Kyle Peterlin was fourth. Rounding out the top five was
Don Shaw in the No. 42s.
     Shane Sabraski of Rice, MN won his WISSOTA Modified heat but drew the
No. 8 starting spot for the main event. Long time racer and former track champion
Kelly Estey’s draw put him on the pole and he made the most of it as he took the
early lead tailed by Darrell Nelson and Sabraski. Nelson was able to get by Estey
about five laps into the 20 lap distance with Sabraski following him through.
Lurking behind was second heat winner Jody Bellefeuille. Just past half way with
nine laps remaining, Sabraski pulled off the pass for the lead and the eventual win.
Nelson finished second as Bellefeuille overtook Estey for third. Many time track
champion Al Uotinen finished fifth after starting eleventh.
     Cory Jorgensen continued his dominance in the WISSOTA Pure Stocks
winning the 15 lap main event. Jorgensen also was the heat winner making it
another sweep for the Duluth, MN driver. Jared Akervik finished second, Trevor
Treviranus was third, Michael Rotth third from tenth and defending track
champion James Vendela finished fifth.
     National WISSOTA Hornet point leader Jake Smith of St. Joseph, MN
continues to follow in his sister Brittany’s foot steps as he tries to be the second in
the family to win the championship. Though shut out of victory in either heat race,
he made up for it by taking the win. Paul Ripley of Duluth worked his way from
the eighth starting spot to finish second while Tyler Schramm, first heat winner,
was third. Nate Rose and Carter Rieland were top five finishers.
     Racing resumes on Friday, July 19th with the third of five Fastlane Northland
Super Stock series events. Racing is free with the $8 Fair gate admission.
