7/29/22 Superior, WI
On Thursday July 28th the seven race WISSOTA FastLane Motorsports Super
Stock Series began a four consecutive day dash to the cash with an appearance at
the Red Cedar Speedway in Menomonie, WI. The 30 lap feature was win by Shane
Sabraski of Rice, Minnesota, his second consecutive feature win.
The next day, July 29th, the Series headed northward to the Gondik Law
Speedway in Superior, Wisconsin for another 30 lap feature event the second of
the four consecutive nights of racing culminating at the Halvor Lines Speedway in
Proctor Minnesota on Sunday July 31st.
A total of 81 cars were in action in four WISSOTA Divisions, Hornets, Pure
Stocks, Midwest Modifieds and WISSOTA Super Stocks. Thirty-eight Super
Stocks made the trip north. The evening began as always, with qualifying heat
races in all four divisions. In the Pure Stocks there were a pair of heats won by
Tyler Kachinske and Cory Jorgensen. There was also a pair of heat races in the
Pure Stocks which were won by Tyler Schramm and Carter Matthews. Ryan Savoy
and Shane Howell were the winners of the Midwest Modified qualifying heats
while Patrick Beeksma, Shane Sabraski, Dexton Koch and Andrew Johnson
topped the Super Stock heats. There were a pair of B Features to finish up the
qualifying won by a pair of Superior residents, rookie Chris Johnson and veteran
Scott Lawrence.
After this extensive qualifying period was over, a short period of track
preparation was completed and the first of the four main events rolled onto the
track. A pair of drivers, one a third generation and one a second generation
occupied the front row for the 20 lap go. At Ray Stuart’s green flag, Brady
Uotinen shot across Evan Checkalski’s bow and grabbed the lead. Scramblng
behind the leader were Checkalski, Jason VandeKamp, Ryan Savoy and Justin
Bassa. The next time by Shane Howell was third behind Savoy, Checkalski,
VandeKamp, Wyatt Boyum, Andrew Inman and Jesse Polson. Uotinen widened
his lead over Howell who had moved to second and was fighting off Savoy,
Polson, VandeKamp, Inman, Boyum and a new player, point leader Cody Carlson
who had started from the 17th position and now was up to seventh. The race soon
became a hare and hound event as Howell chased after Uotinen with little effect.
Savoy locked up third ahead of VandeKamp as the laps continued to unwind
toward the checkered flag.
Uotinen continued to hold sway out front to the checkered flag as Howell
finished second, Savoy third, VandeKamp fourth and Inman in fifth. Carlson
stalled at sixth as the event finished up.
The 20 laps flew by as there was no caution flags at all and it was the first win
of the season at the speedway for Uotinen.
Next up it was 12 laps for the Pure Stocks. Eleven cars started the event which
was led early by pole sitter Mike Grover over Rob Christman, Dylan Shelton,
Tyler Kachinske and Nate Rose. The restart came with 11 laps remaining and there
were already three cars out of the race. Kashinske stole the lead on the restart with
Grover second, Shelton third and Cory Jorgensen fourth. As the half way point
was reached, the #15 of Rob Christman rolled twice in the fourth turn landing on
it’s roof, after contact with another car bringing out the red flag. Christman was
reported to be uninjured. After the car was righted and towed from the track, they
were ready to go and Kachinske took the lead followed by Shelton, Jorgensen,
Aaron Bernick, Grover and Anthony Woodhull. Kachinske then drove away from
the pack while Jorgensen slowed and got off the track. Kachinske widened the gap
back to Shelton and went on to take his first win of the season. Grover, Woodhull,
and Bernick who finished in that order in the top five.
Carter Matthews grabbed the lead from the pole as the green flag flew in the 12
lap event for the WISSOTA Hornets. Tyler Schramm closed in behind just ahead
of Josh Kough, AJ House and Justin Barsness. Barsness moved to third as Dejay
Jarecki took fourth. House put on a charge and bolted past Matthews as the laps
clicked off with nothing to slow the action. Justin Schelitzche got by the front
group to take the victory, his fifth of the season. Matthews, Jarecki, Schramm and
Josh Kough finished in the top five.
Next was the evening’s finale, the 30 lap Super Stock feature that counts
toward “All the Marbles” at the end of the seven race series. The one to watch in
every one of the Super Stock features is Shane Sabraski sometimes called “The
Iron Man” due to not just because he races and wins a lot of events during the
season, but that he does it in two, sometimes three WISSOTA Divisions. Jace Lien
and Kyle Copp led the full field of 26 cars to the green flag. Lien took the lead
over Copp on the first lap but soon they were overwhelmed by the charging #7A
of Sabraski as he drove away from the pack. Joining in was DJ Keeler but the
caution flag flew for an incident in turn two. The restart came with 27 circuits
remaining and Sabraski dominating. He drove further away from the battle behind
him leaving Copp, Keeler, Dexton Koch, and Lien to squabble for position as he
continued to pull away. Anothe caution flag was thrown for debris in turn four
compacting the field once again. Copp tried to keep up with Sabraski to no avail
as he was left to battle with Keeler, Koch, Shawn McFadden, Jack Koranda and
Dustin Nelson. The third caution flag was for another incident in turn two. This
restart came with 21 laps to go and Sabraski maintaining the lead. Keeler, Copp,
McFadden, Koch, Koranda, Dustin Nelson and Dylan Nelson were all in
contention. Everyone caught up to Sabraski again as the fourth caution flag slowed
the action. At this point Nick Oreskovich took the #21F into the pits. The caution
was for the spun car of Jeff Frey in turn four. This restart came with 19 laps to go.
Sabraski hit the gas and again pulled away from the pack. Keeler was second with
Copp, Koch, Koranda, Patrick Beeksma, Dylan Nelson, Koranda and Scott
Lawrence up from his 22nd starting spot to ninth. The rest of the way Sabraski lost
himself in traffic while the rest either battled for position or tried to watch for
Sabraski knifing through traffic until the checkered flag flew at the end. Sabraski,
Copp, Koch, Keeler, and D. Nelson finished in the top five. McFadden, Beeksma,
Lawrence Matt Deragon (Up from 24th) and Koranda finished up the top ten.
Shane Sabraski won his third straight Super Stock Series feature event and will
now move on to the next one on Saturday July 30th at the ABC Raceway in
Ashland,
